The Sacrament of Penance is a sign and means of the flow of grace of repentance in the soul of the penitent. However, in the penitent there is the reality of the grace of the Holy Spirit thanks to the Sacrament of Baptism. At first glance, both are like two separate realities of grace. Therefore, this article attempts to identify the relationship between the two in the operational scope of grace. This fills in several studies that have found various responses from Catholics to the Sacrament of Penance. So the purpose of this article is to understand the relationship between the grace of the Holy Spirit in the penitent and the operational grace of the Sacrament of Penance. Achieving this goal also leads to the novelty of the article, namely the fundamental reasons for the penitent's inappropriate attitude towards the Sacrament of Penance. The method of analysis of sacramental grace and baptism uses the desk research method based on the thoughts of Saint Thomas Aquinas. Through Aquinas's framework of thought on the Sacrament of Penance, this article has a new emphasis on psychological awareness that leads individuals to true regret and repentance. The findings of the analysis reveal that problematic psychological unconsciousness can make penitents unaware of the roots of sin so that true regret is difficult to achieve. The theoretical implications of this writing are the strengthening of catechesis of the Sacrament of Penance on the aspect of psychological unconsciousness. At the same time, it enriches the pastoral accompaniment of the Sacrament of Penance in the field of kerygma.
2024-12-04T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Herwindo Chandra https://stkpkbi.ac.id/ojs/index.php/jgv/article/view/238 Harmoni Filsafat dan Teologi dalam Pemikiran Thomas Aquinas: Kontribusi terhadap Pemahaman Kebenaran Ilahi 2024-11-30T07:15:07+00:00 Andreas Ferdian Ginting andreasferdianginting20.09@gmail.com Mathias Jebaru Adon andreasferdianginting20.09@gmail.com
Thomas Aquinas' thoughts on the relationship between reason (intellect) and revelation (faith) play a crucial role in the tradition of Christian theology, particularly within the Catholic Church. Aquinas argued that reason and faith are two sources of knowledge that do not contradict each other but complement one another. He distinguished between scientific knowledge, which is acquired through reason and sensory experience, and knowledge of faith, which is rooted in divine revelation that transcends the capacity of human reason. According to Aquinas, while human reason can grasp certain divine truths, revelation is necessary to understand deeper and limitless truths, such as the mysteries of God and the Christian teachings found in sacred scripture. Aquinas' thought resulted in a synthesis between Aristotelian philosophy and Christian doctrine, where philosophy investigates the material world, while theology explores divine truths. Aquinas proposed that reason and revelation have distinct yet supportive roles in the pursuit of truth. This view provided a strong intellectual foundation for the Catholic Church and offered a solution to the tension between reason and faith. Aquinas' ideas remain relevant today, particularly in the dialogue between science and religion, which complement each other in the pursuit of a more holistic understanding of reality and human existence.
2024-12-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Andreas Ferdian Ginting, Mathias Jebaru Adon https://stkpkbi.ac.id/ojs/index.php/jgv/article/view/230 Sikap Peserta Didik Katolik dalam Menjunjung Tinggi Keluhuran Martabat Manusia 2024-08-25T06:13:23+00:00 Afrianus Darung afri.darung1998@gmail.com
This research was conducted at Tabang State Senior High School to explore attitudes towards upholding human dignity among Catholic students. Qualitative methods were used with interviews, observation, and documentation on Catholic students, Catholic Religion teacher, Guidance Counselling teacher, and deputy principal. Analysis and descriptive analysis were carried out on the collected data. The findings show the attitudes expressed by students towards human dignity, namely: (1) Self-acceptance with an attitude of gratitude, self-confidence and ability development. (2) Respect for teachers by greeting each other and behaving politely. (3) Recognition of the strengths of fellow students by sharing knowledge and experience. (4) Empathy by helping others in difficult situations. (5) Brotherhood among students with an attitude of mutual cooperation and sharing in the school environment. This research illustrates the importance of maintaining an attitude of respect for human dignity, both towards oneself and others, in character formation in the educational environment.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Afrianus Darung https://stkpkbi.ac.id/ojs/index.php/jgv/article/view/235 Peran Ilmu Antropologi bagi Karya Misi Gereja: Studi Interdisipliner bagi Penerapannya dalam Pelayanan Pastoral dan Kateketik 2024-09-18T10:12:11+00:00 Agrindo Zandro agrindozandroan@gmail.com
The missionary work of the Church today often experiences deadlock and even failure as a result of the work of the wrong mission strategy, not on target, or not in accordance with the context of the lives of the faithful. To realize an appropriate and effective mission, the Church needs to conduct an interdisciplinary study between theology of mission and other sciences, one of which is anthropology. This science can provide accurate and efficient information related to the condition of the people so that the mission of the Church can truly enter the context of the lives of the faithful in a particular area and thus the gospel of truth and joy can be felt by the people. The purpose of this study is to describe the meaning and important role of anthropology, especially applied anthropology for the mission of the Church today, namely in pastoral and catechetical services. The methodology used is a qualitative method by applying a literature study, namely research on books and scientific articles as well as related Church documents. This study found that the science of anthropology is very useful for the mission of the church, especially anthropology has contributed to developing the treasures of Christian theology. The unique contribution of this study is contextual and up-to-date knowledge about mission strategies that can embrace the people of God in all places and times.
2024-12-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Agrindo Zandro https://stkpkbi.ac.id/ojs/index.php/jgv/article/view/241 Gereja sebagai Communio: Implementasi dalam Struktur Hukum Kanonik Pasca Konsili Vatikan II 2025-04-03T05:22:24+00:00 Josep Arianto joseparianto31@gmail.com
The Second Vatican Council introduced the concept of the Church as communio (fellowship) which fundamentally changed the understanding of the relationship between the Pope, bishops and the faithful. This conceptual transformation had a significant impact on the legal structure of the Church, particularly in the 1983 Code of Canon Law (1983 Code), which replaced the 1917 Code of Canon Law. This study aims to analyze the implementation of communio ecclesiology in the post-Vatican II canon law structure, with an emphasis on the relationship between the Pope and bishops, the role of diocesan bishops, and the participation of the faithful in church life. Using a qualitative approach with a document study method, this research analyzes Vatican Council II and KHK 1983 documents that reflect the spirit of communio and collegiality in the Church's legal structure. The results of the analysis show that KHK 1983 expressly adopts the ecclesiology of communio by strengthening the principle of collegiality in the hierarchical relationship of the Church, as well as recognizing the involvement of the faithful in the life of the Church through pastoral councils and financial councils at the diocesan and parish levels. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the influence of communio ecclesiology on the legal structure of the Church and its implications for church life in the modern era.
2024-12-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Josep Arianto
